Although the researchers point out that we need to blame heavy drinking for about 10 percent of all cases of dementia, researchers reported that consumption of one to two drinks a day appears to protect against the overall incidence of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
However, researchers warn that research has not found evidence of lower risk for either vascular dementia or general cognitive decline. Nor is it clear whether the risk varies by type of alcohol that is consumed.
